Where do you start?
With a promise and a commitment!
First of all, you have to want to heal. Whatever reason you can find that awakens your desire to live a better life, you need to hold onto that glimmer of hope and keep it close at all times.
It doesn’t matter how small that glimmer is–for me it was a vision. I saw myself healthy and whole, walking down Zicatela Beach, barefoot, twirling in the sand. Sometimes I was alone. Sometimes my husband or my children were with me. The colors in the sky, and the sound of the surf crashing against the shore, the wind blowing through my long blonde hair–all of it was so real, I felt as if I could reach out and touch it. And in every vision, something amazing was happening–I was smiling. When I saw that woman walking along the shore, I realized that what I admired most was her strength, her calm demeanor, and the easy way she smiled. I wanted to become her, and every day throughout my journey, I’ve imagined what it will feel like to be her.
Then, after you have your reason–your glimmer, you need to promise yourself that no matter what, healing is your priority. You have to promise you will do whatever it takes to change your life for the better.
And when your path begins to reveal itself, you have to commit to following it regardless of your fears, your worries, and your doubts.
The single greatest thing you can nourish within yourself at this stage is FAITH.
Trust in what you know to be true with every fiber of your being. Call it instinct, intuition–whatever suits you. Just believe that your body, your subconscious, your soul knows best–and follow that guidance!
What seems difficult and scary may actually be the best thing you could ever do for yourself.
You just need to be open, aware, and ready to listen.
It won’t be easy. And it won’t happen immediately–which is why the promise and commitment are so important.
You will make mistakes, and you’ll have to accept that it’s a process of trial and error. Only you’ll quickly learn that failing is a good thing. Yes, I said that right. Failing is a good thing because it is necessary. It will guide you towards what does work. And the more you listen to that inner guidance the quicker you can move away from what doesn’t serve you towards what does.
The amazing thing is–once you move closer to a lifestyle that is aligned with who you truly are, the more things begin to fall into place and healing begins to happen almost effortlessly.
Throughout my journey, what I discovered in particular was that I couldn’t just fix one thing and expect to be healed. I had to take a holistic approach that touched every aspect of my life from the things I put into my mouth and on my body, to the thoughts inside my head, to the people I interacted with, and the environments in which I live and work. It was, and still is, a complete overhaul of my behavior and habits. And like I mentioned previously–it is a lot of hard work that takes constant dedication–but it’s so incredibly worth it!
To feel truly alive with mental clarity, to feel passionate and grateful about life, to connect fully with people who love and understand you–well, it is the greatest feeling in the world.
So are you ready? Are you ready to make that promise and commitment to yourself to heal? You know you’re worth it! And if you do, something magical will happen. You’ll begin to see everyone around you getting healthier and happier, too. When you heal yourself, you really do heal the world. It’s a ripple effect. First you’ll notice that your children and spouse begin to make better choices, seem less stressed out, then you’ll notice that even your friends and extended family are changing in amazing ways. It’s always small at first, but it’s those small things that add up to great changes. And imagine, if each person influences the people around them–it’s only a matter of time before your efforts have succeeded in changing the entire world.
I hope you’ll join me on this journey.
