Yesterday I woke with a stiff back and sore knee. The 5 miles I walked the day before for the beginning of my Morning Miles weren’t kind to my body. If I just keep moving, though, I know I’ll work out the muscle cramps and sore joints. Staying sedentary only seems to make things worse. I also realize I should have prepared myself a little more–but really, I thought I was ready. I’ve been sporadically walking approximately 2 miles every other day before officially starting this project.
Determined to push through the pain, I drove out to Natureland County Park near Whitewater, WI for yesterday’s miles. It’s one of my favorite places to take the kids for short hikes–and I was compelled to take more nature photos.
Here are my favorites:
I tried to capture the feeling of awe I had while walking on the trail in the image below. The sunlight was filtering through the canopy of leaves and thousands of little cotton puffs were floating on the breeze. It made the entire forest look magical and enchanted
This last photo is my favorite–I believe it’s the reason I intuitively felt drawn here yesterday. By the end of my hike, I understood I was meant to bear witness to this tree. I saw it from the trail, in the distance across the road, and was fascinated by the gaping hole that runs down the center of it’s trunk:
Growing Despite Deep Wounds
I knew that was the title of this photo–and the metaphor for this stage of my healing journey. Regardless of it’s scar that cuts through the core of it’s body, this tree is thriving. Each branch budding, blooming, offering the world another round of it’s beautiful green bounty. This tree is a kindred spirit. I will think of it often as I move forward, heal my own wounds, and bloom.
Total miles completed on 5.15.13 = 2
